Note from Gary

!!ACTORS!!

To all the actors that audition for SPELLING BEE let me spell the word:

T—H—A—N—K—S!

I know that the audition did not come at the most opportune time—especially at the end of the semester where projects are due, papers are to be written, research completed, and rehearsals for scenes in acting class to be polished and perfected—and not to mentioned GREASE still in performance and all the other theatrical events going on.

Given all this, I am here to tell you that as a group you did an admirable job of presenting yourselves. So much so that I think you should go back to your instructors or whoever assisted you in your audition and thank them for their guidance and suggestions.

It is evident that the Acting Faculty at Theatre VCU knows their stuff! You are all fortunate to be at a training institution that knows craft, that knows how to take that craft and wed it to a process, and knows how to take that process and merge it into a performance.

To all the actors that made it to Call Backs let me spell the word:

B—R—A—V—O!

What impressed me most was how you maintained your energy and at a drop of a hat you could make a choice and go with the impulses that the choice was giving you. And to do it with such joy! You were all dynamite! Again, I think you should thank your instructors for giving you the craft and confidence to trust in your self.

To all the actors that were cast in SPELLING BEE let me spell the word:

C—O—N—G—R—A—T—S!

I look forward with great eagerness to get all of you into a rehearsal room and to take your collective talent to create some “magic” that only the theatre can provide.

With heartfelt appreciation to Theatre VCU!
